Puppies are raised using the principles of Puppy Culture. This program introduces them to early neural stimulation, new physical and mental challenges, beginning clicker training and much more. This program prepares young puppies to navigate their world and deal with new experiences with more confidence and adaptability. Generally puppies and adults recover more quickly in negative situations after using this protocal.
As part of this protocol, puppies start with Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) and I also introduce scents to them until their eyes start to open.
Puppies will be placed with the best needs of the puppy and the potential owner in mind. The goal is to put the puppy that is most suited to the owners needs to ensure a lifetime together.
Philosophy: Quality puppies worth the wait
At Cruzyn Mudi Kennels, you will get a unique puppy. Bitches are bred usually twice only and to different males as diversity of genes and the value of a non-repeated litter are very important. The girls are not just used for breeding but are our companions in life and often compete after having puppies. Their health and well-being are far more important than producing puppies. We breed to the AKC standard.
Cruzyn Mudi Kennels is a registered AKC Breeder of Merit.
Health Testing and Quality of Parents
Health testing is very important. Parents complete health testing prior to breeding. Though you can't test for every imaginable possibility, we do our utmost to start with healthy adult dogs who have been tested for known health concerns. The parent club requires testing for Hip Dysplasia, Elbow Dysplasia, Patellar Luxation, and Eye Examination (note will require testing on foreign sires which are not OFA listed). Additionally our dogs all have been tested for heart conditions. All tests can be found on the Orthopedic Animal Foundation (OFA.com). Links to test results are posted next to every planned litter. Results of related dogs can also be researched here. Dogs are listed by name and registration number and microchips are verified at the time of testing. If a dog has completed all required testing, the OFA will add the designation "CHIC".
We also genetically test our dogs. We try to use all available resources to ensure the health of our puppies.
Note, this breed can have epilepsy. While there are no definitive tests, pedigree analysis is used to determine risk of ancestors. Additionally, we try to wait until both parents are at least 3 years of age before breeding as time is the best test for this condition. Since this breed is uncommon, there are a limited number of dogs to choose from so I will make adjustments keeping this in mind.
Parents are also expected to be proven on both sides of the pairing. Both conformation and performance titles are one way to get a good indication of temperament and ability to handle the type of life the puppy is destined to experience.
